I’ve never thought about this until the other day when I was in a conversation with a friend. This person was telling me about a very intense spiritual battle they were in concerning the safety and wellbeing of close family members. A couple of years ago this person had gotten guardianship of a nephew. The nephews mother had all three of her sons taken from her by the court. She had recently moved close to one of the sons and was harassing and threatening the family. After an intense weekend with the mother, this person heard the Lord say “ enough”! This person knew at that time they were supposed to get a protective order, knowing full well what the family was going to say. As this person was telling me what they felt in the spirit after they got the protective order, I kept hearing “on earth as it is in heaven” They felt a relief in the spirit as well as bolder, stronger and empowered. As I thought about what this person said and what I was hearing I began to see this part of the Lords prayer in a different light.
On earth as it is in heaven, what is in heaven that needs to be on earth? How can the two become one? So backing up and taking the whole sentence in the Lords prayer, Come thy Kingdom be done thy will on earth as it is in heaven. The kingdom of God can not be seen but it’s what we as believers become a part of the minute we are born again. We fight to advance the kingdom of God. Whether in a fierce spiritual confrontation with the enemy of the kingdom of God pulling down strongholds and setting the captive free, for ourselves or the nations or it be in raising one from a newborn birthed from the womb or a newborn birthed in the spirit. We are continually in a battle.
On earth as it is in heaven, what does it mean? With God He can minister this to each one of His as he sees fit, but this is what I see at this time. It’s that moment when our will meets Gods will and we act in obedience to fulfill what needs to be done to carry Gods will forward. That moment of revelation that you are One with the Father. That explosion of power from on high that no weapon formed against you can prosper. That moment of a blessed union with heaven of peace and holiness.
It can be that moment of wedded bliss or it can be that moment in a battle that has raged on for days, weeks or even years when you know that’s it’s now on earth as it is in heaven. Recently another friend asked for prayer for an onslaught in their life from the enemy. As I asked the Lord how to pray and was ready to draw my sword and fight back the enemy on their behalf. I heard, “ what did Jesus say?” What did Jesus say? When? “ To Peter”. Jesus told Peter that Satan had asked to sift him like wheat, but Jesus said, “ I have prayed that your faith would not fail you.” Jesus, who is all authority didn’t cast the enemy away from Peter but empowered Peter to overcome the enemy. So how did I pray? That their faith would not fail them and that God would teach them to how to war . We have been clothed with the shield of faith to stop those fiery darts that the enemy shoots at us, and when they hit that shield of faith, those darts become powerless. Jesus wanted Peter to learn to war, for himself and for others. To advance the kingdom in his life as well as in others. On earth as it is in heaven. That place where we become one with the Father. That place where no weapon formed against us will prosper. That place where the Holy Spirit leads us into the spiritual realm that can’t be seen by the natural eye. That place where we live and move and have our being in Christ. On Earth as it is in Heaven.
